How time flies.
Tharini is 6 years old. Her birthday, on the 15
th March was celebrated in
Penang coz it fell during the school holidays. She wanted to have it by the pool side in
Sumi's place. We did a small celebration for her. Mum did fried
mee hoon and curry puffs. Meanwhile
Sumi did home made burger.
Kugan and Leena bought her a mickey mouse cake. All these were requested by her minus the jelly
coz the kids were down with flu at that point of time. So fast she is 6 years old. It is as if I had just delivered her yesterday. I still remember clearly the day I went into labour pain. In the morning, I had a slight contraction pain. I could still bear the pain. By evening the contraction was 10 minutes apart. My grandma was in kl at that time. It was the beginning of school holiday and
Guna too didn't come. My mum called her aunt (my grandma's sis) and she came and made me a very bitter concoction. It was meant to speed up the pain. She even
poured the castor oil on my belly to see the movement of the oil If it flows straight then it's a labour pain and if it flows sideways, the pain might be due to something else......old people and their traditional method. She was right, it was labour pain as my due was on the 24
th March. In the mean time, we tried calling
Guna but he was missing in action. He could not be contacted. Finally, he got the news in the evening. He fetched my grandma and rushed to
kk. I was admitted in the hospital at 7.30pm. My colleague, Miss
Vanaja sent me to the hospital. At that point of time. I was only dilated 1 cm. The doctor who had checked me said that I will need at least 10 hours before I give birth because it is the first pregnancy.
Guna reached at 9 something. The pain was getting intense when
Guna came and saw me at the hospital. Unfortunately, it was not the visiting hours. So, I was left alone in the ward and that was my first experience being warded in the hospital. Lucky enough, my mum knew some of the cleaners there and they were the news feeders to them. My grandma mixed me a mug of hot
milo with egg beaten inside.
Phewww!!! had to drink that too. That was to speed up the opening of the cervix. Finally, around ten something my water bag burst. My bed was wet. I really thought I had wet myself
coz I was in terrible contraction by then. The nurse wheeled me to the labour room and I managed to remind her to call my hubby in.By then I was already 5 cm dilated. The nurses got ready with the equipments and checked the baby's heart beat.
Guna was called in. I was already in terrible pain. The nurse put me on gas which made me drowsy and for a moment I forgot the pain. I think I slept off for a while. I overheard the nurse telling
Guna,..."
tengok,
sempat tidur lagi"! It was such a relieve when I kept on inhaling the gas. The nurses started asking me to push when I was 8cm dilated. The baby's crown was out and could be seen clearly. There were about 5 nurses and they started cheering and clapping for me together with my hubby. I was a very good patient as I didn't scream throughout the delivery. The nurses were full praises of me
coz according to them the Indians will be the noisiest of all in the labour room. Finally, the baby was out at sharp 12 midnight.... a midnight baby. Everyone in he labour room was amazed to see the time .Tears welled up my eyes when I heard the first cry ...... the cry of a baby girl and she is
Tharini who is now 6 years old. It was a surprise for everyone because no one knew the gender of the baby till the end including
Guna and I. Although I did numerous scanning, but I told the doctor not to tell me the sex of the baby. Let it be a surprise!!!
Guna was the proudest man that day
coz he was the first person to see her coming out to this world.According to him, at that point of time only his mum came to his mind as she would have gone through the same pain giving birth to him.Every man should go and witness the birth of their child. No words can describe it. As for
Tharini, she was very loud in the labour room till my mum, dad and grandmas who were waiting outside could hear her very well. The presence of my husband really helped me physically, mentally and spiritually. He was there throughout my pain, comforting me and giving me moral support. Later, while attending to me, they took the baby for a bath.I remember, I saw her body bluish in colour covered with blood I was not attended by any doctors but instead my delivery was done by the nurses. Out of happiness, my dad bought a basket of fruits for the nurses as a simple gesture of saying thanks. I only have praises for them. The matron who's my mum's good friend had a pleasant surprise to see me in the ward in the morning as she had promised to attend to me during the birth (we completely forgot to inform her). The midwives were equally good and experienced
coz they did it without a single help from the doctor and the matron.....Salute to
KK hospital. We were very very happy
coz it was only RM1.
oo (I had to be admitted in the 3rd class, due to a name error made by my clerk in the
GL) . I was only allowed to go back after 2 days
coz she didn't poo on the day of birth. The 2 days in the hospital
were unforgettable.
Tharini didn't know how to suck from the breast. She would be wailing throughout the nights and would get very frustrated as she didn't how to latch properly. The nurses would be feeding her with a spoon as one can't bottle feed in the government hospital. Whenever we pass by the hospital,
Tharini will be quick to say that it's her hospital. My darling princess , we love you very very much. Happy Birthday my sweetheart.
