Thurgashini n Dad share the same birth date...i.e.25th of April. My dad is 60 years old and my daughter is 5. My dad spent his 60th birthday in the hospital. He was hospitalised for asthma. He was in KK when he got the attack. He managed to go to the clinic and the doctor contacted my sister to inform of his condition. As he was sweating, she suspected it had got to do with his heart. My brother went to pick him up and he was immediately admitted in Pantai Medical Centre in Penang. He stayed there for almost 3 weeks. On his birthday, he was brought out with permission from the doctor for a Thai food treat. Back here in KL, Thurgashini had a fairly simple celebration. This is the first time her birthday is being celebrated here. We decided to have a kiddos party for her. My husband and I painstakingly prepared the food. We were excited as well. The only thing that we bought was the birthday cake and the others we cooked by ourselves. The kids enjoyed themselves tremendously but we were completely exhausted after all the cooking and cleaning. Ehmmmmm.....my little princess is 5 years old now. Let me recount what had happened 5 years ago. It was a Sunday evening, around 6 something and I was doing my test paper, cutting and pasting the pictures. I bent down to take something and suddenly my water bag broke. Water was everywhere and every step I took, water kept flowing down.Luckily my brother was at home that time. He was about to leave for KL. I was sent to the hospital immediately. The nurse who checked me said I was only 1 cm dilated. We managed to inform Guna. When I was admitted, it was 7 something and by 9 something Guna was already in the hospital. I don't know whether he was driving or flying. My mum, grandma, hubby and dad waited patiently outside of the hospital. There were only 2 of us warded in the maternity ward that time. My water bag broke again in the ward. I guess, my belly was full of water. The pain was unbearable. I called the nurse but she said I still have a long way to go.The other patient was wheeled to the labour room and the nurse compared her with me saying that she got admitted in the morning and still has not given birth yet. She told me I will have to wait at least till d next day morning. Meanwhile, my pain was getting more intensed. My water bag broke again and this time the nurse did not want to take any more chances and wheeled me to the labour room. Despite the pain, I managed to remind her to call my husband in. She just brushed me off saying that I have to be at least 5 cm dilated before they can call him. Whatever, but he must be in during the delivery. When I transferred from the wheelchair to the bed, my water bag broke again. Phewwww! too much of water! When they checked me, I was already 8 cm dilated. It was chaotic in the labour room. They had no time to check the baby's heart beat. They were rushing to get the equipments ready. There wasn't a single wire on my body. Amidst the chaos, they managed to call my hubby in. My hubby said he could see the baby's crown when he stepped into the room. With some help from my hubby and cheering from the nurse, the baby was out at 12.43 a.m. It was a guessing game too for this baby as we opted not to see the sex of the baby. The baby was very fair and pinkish in colour. My hubby was the most happiest person. Meanwhile the other patient who went before me was still in the labour room and she only delivered later in the afternoon. How wrong was the nurse to assume that the first to get admitted will deliver first. Nevertheless, the labour room team did a good job. This time, the nurses got chocolates from my dad. My mum's good friend (the matron) had a pleasant surprise when she saw me in the ward. My baby was a darling when it came to breastfeeding. I still remember how she latched on perfectly for her first feeding. Breastfeeding is a great bonding session between the mom and the child. I was discharged around noon as she had done her 'business' well. I had endured two different types of pain for both my children....invaluable experience. I consider myself lucky as my husband was able to witness them coming out to this world although he had to rush from KL. A big salute for him. Thurgashini and Dad, we love you very-very much. Happy Birthday!!!!
